Our Story

About Skye: Founder of Pocket of Sunshine

I am a passionate and experienced nanny fortunate to be living on the beautiful Mornington Peninsula. I’m also the proud founder of Pocket of Sunshine, a childcare service dedicated to nurturing children and supporting families in creating happy, mindful, and balanced lives.

I’ve called the Mornington Peninsula home since I was 11, and it’s here that I discovered my passion for working with children. Initially, I aspired to become a pediatric nurse, but my time caring for children quickly revealed my true calling. I fell in love with the everyday connections and the joy of seeing the world through the curious and imaginative minds of little ones.

Pocket of Sunshine was born during my time as a live-in nanny, where I recognized my innate ability to connect with children of all ages. Beyond providing care, I discovered that my work could positively impact entire families by fostering a more functional, structured, and holistic way of life. Happier, healthier parents lead to happier, healthier children—a philosophy at the core of everything I do.

My Vision…

To provide bespoke, holistic childcare that inspires a strong, happy, and mindful generation. My goal is to empower children to embrace their individuality, learn emotional resilience, develop life skills and a love of learning, while supporting families in creating harmonious and balanced home environments.

Why I love what I do?

Every child is unique, and it’s an incredible privilege to support their growth and learning journey. My approach is rooted in these core beliefs:

  • Life is a continuous learning experience, and challenges are our greatest teachers.

  • To be fully seen and received by another is clarifying, soothing, and empowering.

  • Life isn’t always fair, but developing skills to navigate it is fundamental.

  • Be the change you want to see.

  • Every child deserves to feel safe and loved.

By listening with my heart, eyes and ears, I strive to understand what children are expressing, both in words and in silence. This empathetic approach, combined with my focus on presence, empowerment, and setting healthy boundaries, allows me to support children as they grow into confident, compassionate individuals.

What sets me apart?

  • A deep understanding of children’s developmental needs, combined with a tailored approach to each family.

  • Strong communication skills to build trust and connection with children and parents alike.

  • A commitment to fostering emotional intelligence, creativity, and resilience in children.

  • Core values of honesty, integrity, empathy, and a love of learning.

What’s important to me outside of work?

Family is the cornerstone of my life. Growing up as one of three children, with parents who prioritized our growth and opportunities, taught me the importance of adaptability, empathy, and communication. Having lived in nine homes across Australia and internationally, I’ve gained a deep appreciation for different cultures, perspectives, and the adventure of life.

My fur bestie Mila, my playful and loyal cat, is another cherished part of my life. She reminds me to savour the small joys and stay grounded, no matter how busy life gets. She’s loving, sweet, smart, funny, cheeky, resilient and independent just like me!

Staying fit and embracing the day with sunrise walks is an important part of my routine, allowing me to welcome each morning with a sense of clarity and gratitude. I also have a deep love for travel, which fuels my curiosity and appreciation for different cultures, along with a passion for singing and cooking, both of which bring joy and creativity into my everyday life.

In closing…

Families I’ve worked with often describe me as nurturing, patient, and deeply committed to the well-being of their children. They appreciate my ability to create a calm, structured environment that allows kids to thrive while supporting parents in their busy lives.

At Pocket of Sunshine, my goal is simple: to bring light into the lives of families, one moment at a time. I look forward to the opportunity to work with you and your little ones.
